I personally can’t decide if the more sparkly brooch options for sale are somewhat… gaudy??? Inappropriate…? Or am I missing the point? That is, whatever it takes to get support and raise funds: if that requires a bit of diamante then so be it…?
I do rather like this idea, though…
And so have made myself this to wear this Sunday. And I will continue to donate my £1 this year and in the years to come, safe in the knowledge that my poppy will remain safely attached to my jacket.

Whenever I hear of an engagement, I bubble and shimmy with excitement at the planning and choosing and sifting and designing fun that awaits the happy couple. My first port of call is usually to send a congratulations card…
My second port of call is to send, usually the bride, a hop-skippy-happy email brim full of annoying enthusiasm and links for them to explore.
It occurred to me that those types of links may be useful to people who happen upon this blog…

There are many thousand and thousand and million sites out there and certainly the wonderful wonderful internet continues to inspire and enrage me in equal measure on a daily, if not hourly, basis.
However, it is very easy to agree that weddings, and in particular, our little Countryside Wedding, would have been a completely different affair without the wonders of the world wide web. From shipping in the silk from Hong Kong, the reproduction print cotton from the US and the smorgasbord of ideas from SMP, TBC and many many others, happy surfing and happy planning!
I was a guest at a gloriously vibrant yellow summer wedding this weekend. There are a load of gorgeous images that I’ll upload shortly, but it got me thinking about seasonal flowers, bouquets and suchlike.

Rather more success second time around, at the in-law’s local village fete. Great weather, quiet turnout (hampered no doubt by the pitiful excuse that was England v Germany that afternoon) but more punters, more enthusiasm, and most importantly… more takings! Onwards and upwards…
Weekend activities also included some gardening, some assistance on the Elderflower Cordial production line and some winning of prizes for brownies. Nigella Lawson – I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

For the record, the fact that Reuss is moving away to another county is spectacularly unimpressive in my books. So it’s good that we got to craft together one last time. For now, anyway.

Friends of ours are engaged to be married and we couldn’t be happier for them! They have two glorious children (5 year old girl and 2 year old boy) and Dad hails from Glasgow. They hope to marry in August before a relation is posted abroad with the Army, and so are leaping from nought to sixty on the wedding planning front …
It got me thinking about tartan weddings and how you could incorporate an important heritage into your day without it feeling like Edinburgh at Festival time.
The bride wants to incorporate the tartan into her attire without drowning in the gothic and theme weddings. I personally love the frocks of By Storm – look through the website of this Glasgow-based boutique for some elegant styles that incorporate glimpses without feeling that you’re an extra in Braveheart.
The little flower girls have suggested wood fairy/sprite outfits and I love this pattern in dark chiffons to channel this kind of look below (left).
And to prevent the death by taffeta risk – this citrus frock would be great for a bridesmaid or best friend to nod to the scheme…

Our first anniversary is looming around the corner: on Sunday we will have been married for one glorious year.
On that basis, I feel a gratuitous series of pictures reminiscing about the ‘big day’ would be appropriate… What do you reckon?

I know everyone always says so but the day went so very quickly… I’m so delighted that we made a last-minute decision to get the day filmed. We can look back on the choir, the tears and the smiles without having great big gaps in our memories…

Lemon Fluff Cake with yoghurt and frozen berries.
Blueberry and cherry clafoutis to celebrate a good friend beginning a new career as a Secondary Physics Teacher.
Using up some old silk flowers to create a headpiece for a summer garden wedding (pics of the event itself to come – incredible detail in a gorgeous setting…). Can’t work out if I look achingly cool or a bit ridiculous. Could really go either way…
I also fear that I’m getting a pregnancy wattle, if this image is anything to go by… Perhaps the pizza in the oven for dinner is not the best idea…
After the gorgeous ceremony, the guests returned to the bride’s family house just down the lane…
Canapes and photographs in the family garden, with much snooping into the various corners of summer houses, vegetable patches, water features and scented gardens… Heavenly…
Then the grand removal of hats and we all went into the second marquee for dinner…
Trio of desserts (banoffee pie, chocolate mousse and raspberry jelly)was a great hit…
The cake was cut, the dances were danced and a glorious day was had by all.
